This resource supports facilitators to work with whānau, parents, and caregivers of students attending secondary school. The workshops provide whānau with important information, strategies, and tools to support their young people/rangatahi with gaming, gambling, and their digital wellbeing. The three workshops encourage a non-judgemental, harm reduction approach.

Topics covered:

1. Introduction 101 – Navigating gaming, gambling and digital wellbeing

An overview of gaming, gambling and gamblification, why and how young people engage with them, and what supports digital wellbeing. It's a starting point rather than a comprehensive guide, helping whānau feel confident to talk about and navigate these spaces. It also sets the foundation for the following two workshops.

2. The role of whānau – Navigating gaming, gambling and digital wellbeing

This workshop focuses on the role of whānau, exploring practical strategies they can use to support the young people in their lives. Strategies are chosen to build whānau confidence and skills.

3. Supportive conversations – Navigating gaming, gambling and digital wellbeing

This workshop covers how whānau can have supportive conversations with their young person, one of the main ways to help them navigate gaming, gambling and digital wellbeing. Activities are chosen to build whānau confidence and skills.
