What is Tūturu?

Tūturu is a uniquely Aotearoa approach focused on student wellbeing.

Tūturu helps secondary schools build systems that support student wellbeing and critical thinking.

We bring together schools and health services, to help students learn, stay well, be engaged at school and be prepared for the modern world.

Tūturu is guided by a harm reduction, strengths-based youth development approach.

What does Tūturu do?

We provide secondary schools with resources and training that focus on student wellbeing and learning, especially around complex issues like gambling, gaming, and alcohol and other drugs.

Tūturu works with schools to enhance protective factors for students, including establishing healthy, supportive relationships with a focus on maintaining school connectedness.

The upskilling of school staff in positive youth development approaches and motivational interviewing enables them to engage effectively with students on alcohol and other drugs, hauora and wellbeing issues.

Tūturu Leads provide the link between the school and youth addiction and mental health services. This strengthens referral pathways and ensures students who experience greater harm have access to external care when needed.

Areas we work in

Tūturu works in four main areas:

·                Developing school climate (such as senior leadership, school boards, and policy)

·                Pastoral care and support pathways

·                Professional learning and development

·                Creating curriculum resources for students in years 9–13.
