Mirror Services / Whakaata Tohu Tohu

Provides counselling and treatment for children, young people and their whānau in Otago/Southland.

 Mirror Services Whakaata Tohu Tohu is an Otago-based organisation that delivers counselling and treatment programmes for children, young people and their whānau in the Otago/Southland region.

They provide three main services:

  • Mirror Counselling Whakaata Tohu Tohu provides a range of counselling services to children and young people with emotional, behavioural and/or mental health problems. 
  • Mirror HQ Youth Addiction Service Whakaata Tohu Tohu is committed to providing alcohol and other drug services for young people aged 12 to 22. As young people are often coping with a range of issues this team works from a co-existing, problem-enhanced approach
  • Mirror Youth Day Programme Whakaata Tohu Tohu O Tai Tama Wahine Me Tai Tama Tane is a programme that helps young people aged 13 to 18 years of age manage their lives and address their alcohol and drug issues

Mirror Services Whakaata Tohu Tohu has worked with schools in Otago using the Tūturu approach since 2016.

About Tūturu Lead, Kim Gotlieb:

For the past 11 years, Kim has worked at Mirror Services. Since 2016, she has led Tūturu, helping schools in Otago develop a better wellbeing approach for students.

Kim builds connections between schools, service providers, and educators to strengthen communities of support around schools. She is passionate about empowering taiohi, schools, and hāpori to make system-wide changes to support wellbeing.

About Tūturu Facilitator, Nic Dorward

Nic recently joined the Mirror Services team. After graduating as a social worker, she worked supporting schools, young people and their whānau in the rainbow/takataapui space. Nic ran rainbow youth groups, delivered professional development to schools and helped to develop transgender healthcare pathways in Christchurch. Nic has a history of being deeply engaged in flax roots community development, volunteering and activism.

Nic is passionate about equity in education, youth development, and helping facilitate stronger relationships between schools, whānau and the wider community. She sees real power and possibility in providing evidence-based alcohol and other drug knowledge to schools, whānau and communities so we can better support our young people.
